Summary:
These two character's stories intertwine as the author depicts India in a time of British colonialism. This story is rich in historical facts while also being rich in fantasy. Safia has been traded to a demon husband and is sure to die the first night. To keep at ease she tells stories of two young people. Farhad is a thief and master of disguises that is recruited to help save Raka from her to-be husband. He is a demon of a man and death is inevitable for Raka if nothing is done. Raka a princess was promised to this man however, she is not what was promised to him. Farhad risks his life to save Raka and do what is right. This story depicts the development of two young characters.
This book is RICH in culture. There is evidence of deities, religion, traditions, and dress. It also, depicts a time when British colonialism was overtaking India. This would be great to expand children's minds culturally and to religion because several religions are expressed throughout the story.
