Summary:
This book is an information non-fiction book that chronicles the tale of the American forty-niners and their discoveries and adventures out west.  William Leidsdorff created a schooner, warehouse, and hotel to house African-Americans moving west.  Then on his land, gold was struck.  This started the American Gold Rush, arguably the most important event in California history.  This book can be used for research on the Gold Rush, American Forty-Niners, westward expansion, and successful men.  While it is an informational book it is quite interesting and a side of the gold rush story not often told.
